Objectives: This Toolkit entry provides an introduction to the work that the California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is doing to support tribal stewardship of the coast and ocean, and opportunities for California Native American tribes to work with OPC.
This toolkit entry was developed to support the implementation of California Natural Resources Agency’s Tribal Stewardship Policy and Toolkit. The associated resources are intended to increase the capacity of tribes, state agencies, and non-tribal entities to advance tribal stewardship, including tribal access, collaboration, and ancestral land return according to the CNRA Tribal Stewardship Policy.
This toolkit entry includes links to programs and initiatives that include opportunities for collaboration between the Ocean Protection Council (OPC) and California Native American tribes. Additionally, this entry includes resources to learn more about examples of partnerships between OPC and California Native American tribes.
This toolkit entry also includes a webinar highlighting the work that the OPC is doing to support tribal stewardship of the coast and ocean, and opportunities for tribes to get involved. Speakers from the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and the Wiyot Tribe highlight tribally-led research, monitoring, and restoration efforts, efforts to advance co-management and collaborative stewardship, and funding opportunities.
