Grantee: Coastal Watershed Council

Project: Watershed Rangers

YCA Funded Project Cost: $80,048

The Coastal Watershed Council delivered a 2-year grant project that served approximately 129 youth from 3rd-5th grades. This program was an after-school environmental education program that supported 30 fieldtrips with 8 afterschool cohorts that provided access to the San Lorenzo River and Santa Cruz Riverwalk Park. Through river-focused art projects, games with teambuilding elements, stewardship projects and more on school campuses and during field trips to the San Lorenzo River, the program connected youth to the outdoors and combined programming for physical, emotional, and mental success.

Program quote: “As someone raised in Santa Cruz, I am so grateful to Sam, Maria, and the entire CWC organization for showcasing the importance of preserving our natural environment to our students. They are organized, compassionate, patient, informative, and all around an asset to any community's learning. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the CWC Ranger program!”
