Tribal Grant Administration Guidance

The California Natural Resource Agency (CNRA) Tribal Grant Administration Guidance document is a resource for CNRA Department state staff designing and administering grant programs where California Native American tribes are eligible applicants. This guidance document provides best practices and general guidance on how to better serve tribes through equitable, culturally-relevant grant guideline development, grant applicant scoring and review, and grant administration post-award.

This document draws upon the collective knowledges, best practices, and resources at Agency across diverse grant programs and contextualizes them with direct feedback received from tribal consultation and outreach done on Climate Bond-Prop 4 implementation and previous CNRA grant programs. CNRA thanks California Native American tribes for their feedback and ongoing patience and education of state staff, and we thank all leadership and staff who’ve contributed their time into reviewing and providing feedback to this document.

This document guidance has been prepared as a resource for Departments when implementing Climate Bond programs. This document contains general information and guidance for all programs and is not a Climate Bond program guideline or regulation that establishes selection criteria for how funds are disbursed. This resource should be considered evergreen and may be updated periodically.
