Proposition 4 – Climate Bond

Climate Bond

Proposition 4: A $10 Billion Climate Bond for a More Resilient California

In November 2024, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 4, a $10 billion Climate Bond designed to safeguard our communities, natural resources and our future in the face of climate change. From wildfire prevention and safe drinking water to protecting biodiversity and increasing access to nature, these funds will support projects that make a real, lasting difference in the lives of people and communities across California.

Shaping the Future Together: Climate Bond Grants Survey

The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) is the coordinating agency for the rollout of the Climate Bond, in collaboration with our departments, conservancies and boards. We're committed to ensuring that this historic investment delivers meaningful, equitable and transparent outcomes for all Californians.

Earlier this year, we invited the public to help shape our approach through a statewide survey on what they would like to see in our grant process. The survey closed on April 18, 2025, and we received thoughtful input from almost 500 participants. Thank you for sharing your ideas, experiences and priorities. Your feedback is already helping to inform how we improve grant programs across CNRA!

Bond Accountability: Where the Money Goes

Read about Bond Accountability here for a list of Climate Bond programs and to learn how and where bond dollars are spent.

Transparency and accountability are central to the success of the Climate Bond. To help Californians see how their investment is making an impact, we’ve created a dedicated Bond Accountability page. Here you will find a list of Climate Bond programs and can see how and where bond dollars are spent. There, you can explore a full list of programs funded by the Climate Bond, learn how funding decisions are made, and track project spending and progress. We’re committed to showing how every dollar is being used to advance climate solutions, protect communities, and deliver real results across the state.

Funding Opportunities: Apply for a Grant

The Climate Bond will support a wide range of projects that help California prepare for and adapt to climate change. This includes efforts to reduce wildfire risk, secure local water supplies, restore critical habitats and create more green spaces in communities. At least 40 percent of funding must benefit disadvantaged, severely disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

If you’re part of a local government, nonprofit, tribal community or grassroots organization, we encourage you to explore available funding through the California Grants Portal. Here, you will find information about open and upcoming opportunities, eligibility, deadlines and application resources to help you get started.
