45-Day Public Comment Period on California Plumbing Code Changes

Published:

The California Department of Water Resources has proposed amendments to California Plumbing Code (CPC) sections dealing with plumbing design standards for recycled water. A 45-day comment period ending on July 12, 2021 is the public’s chance to review and provide feedback to DWR on these proposed changes. The CPC supports local building and planning departments, as well as potable and recycled water suppliers on safe use of recycled water.

To view the proposed changes to the plumbing code, go to the California Building Standards Commission 45-Day Public Comment Period webpage under the Plumbing Electrical, Mechanical and Energy (PEME) Code Advisory Committee.

Then go to the Department of Water Resources section to view PDFs that outline the amendments to the code:

  1. Notice of Proposed Action” briefly explains amendments and provides instructions on submitting written comments on DWR’s proposed amendments.
  2. Express Terms” provides the proposed amendments.
  3. Initial Statement of Reasons” gives more specific reasons for the proposed amendments.

The revised code will be published as the 2022 California Plumbing Code in July 2022. New CPC rules go into effect on January 1, 2023.
