A recently released technical report concludes that the sinking of land in the Central Valley due to over-pumping of groundwater, referred to as subsidence, has restricted the amount of water the State Water Project (SWP) can deliver in a year by 3 percent.

DWR recently celebrated 10 years of educator workshops focused on climate change and the state’s water resources.

California’s water system is complex and requires real-time adjustments to balance the needs of our state’s cities and farms and the natural environment. Starting today, the State Water Project (SWP) is adjusting operations to meet those needs.

Since the 1950s, California’s salmon populations have dwindled due to lost habitat from a combination of factors, including human-made barriers such as dams, altered river flows, and climate change.
