Roadless Rule
 |
|
Governor Schwarzenegger has filed a petition with the federal government that seeks to protect roadless areas of national forests in California. The Governor is requesting state-specific protections for national forests within the state. These forests contribute to clean air and water, sustain recreation and tourism, and are home to many endangered species. The Governor's petition prohibits road construction on approximately 21 percent of the land (4.4 million acres of Inventoried Roadless Areas) in California's 18 national forests.
