March 2003 To Interested Members of the Public: The Resources Agency has completed the March 2003 draft report titled, Draft Review of California Coastal Erosion Planning and Response: A Strategy for Action. Originally released in March 2001, this document has been revised based upon extensive public review and comment over the last year. This draft report identifies a strategy for improving how the state plans for and responds to coastal erosion along CaliforniaÍs 1,100-mile coastline, the first statewide statement on shoreline erosion released by the Resources Agency in over 23 years. While considering the dynamic and sometimes unpredictable nature of the stateÍs coastal bluffs, beaches and sand resources, this draft strategy also provides for the maintenance of critical infrastructure and the protection of natural resources. An electronic version of the draft report is available in PDF (208K) and MS Word (384K). Hard copies may be requested by contacting Cliff Moberg at 916.653.5656 or Clifton@resources.ca.gov. Public comments on this draft report will be accepted through May 28, 2003 and should be submitted electronically to Erosion@resources.ca.gov or by mail to the California Resources Agency, Ocean Resources Management Program, 1416 Ninth Street, Suite 1311, Sacramento, CA 95814. If you have questions regarding the draft report, please contact Ocean Program Manager Brian Baird (Brian@resources.ca.gov or 916.657.0198) or Policy Analyst Melissa Miller-Henson (Melissa@resources.ca.gov or 916.654.2506). Yours Sincerely, Mary D. Nichols |
