On Your Own Trips

Cabrillo High School Aquarium : On Sunday, October 27 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. the Cabrillo Aquarium at Cabrillo High School will be open especially for conference attendees, with the students that manage the facility ready to answer all of your questions!

The Cabrillo High School Aquarium is a completely student organized and run aquarium, the only one of its kind in the nation. Originally started as a partnership between a student, a teacher, and a local amateur aquarist in 1986, the aquarium is now housed in a brand new building and contains 12 live tanks, educational displays and a theater showing a student-produced movie about conservation. On display are species that live in different marine habitats, ranging from central coast tidal pools to the Channel Islands to tropical locations. Not normally open to the general public, this is a great opportunity to visit this revolutionary aquarium and see the hands on learning and work completed by the students.
