CALL FOR PAPERS

__________

THE CALIFORNIA AND THE WORLD OCEAN '02 CONFERENCE, organized by the CALIFORNIA RESOURCES AGENCY, CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, AND COASTAL ZONE FOUNDATION, will take place October 27-30, 2002 at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort, California, U.S.A. Professional papers, plenary sessions, commercial exhibits, and other events will foster an extensive exchange of information and views.

PAPERS are invited to address California's Ocean Resources: An Agenda for the Future and A Review of California's Ocean Agenda on a number of ocean and coastal related subjects, with particular interest in policy development or implications. Other ocean and coastal related subjects are welcome and will be considered, as well as proposals for complete topical sessions. Click here to view the list of paper topics.

ABSTRACTS to be considered for California and the World Ocean '02 (CWO '02) must be submitted no later than June 3, 2002 (new date!) to conference headquarters. If you submit your abstract electronically, the file must be saved in MS Word or Word Perfect format. If sending hard copies, you must submit an original and five copies. Abstracts should be limited to two pages, double-spaced, and list the names, titles, affiliations, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number and facsimile (if available) of each author and co-author. The family or last name of each author and co-author should be underlined. Abstracts should summarize the major points of the paper to be presented at the conference. In the upper right-hand corner of the first page, annotate the topic that best describes your abstract. If possible, please use the general (large type) or specific (small type) topics listed on the topics page. If more than one author is named on an abstract, please identify the name of the person who will present the paper at the conference with parentheses. A one-page biography of the presenter must be included with the abstract submission.

NOTIFICATION of acceptance for paper presentation, along with full format and submission instructions, will be mailed to authors by July 26, 2002. Accepted authors must submit a camera-ready, two-page, single-spaced, detailed abstract by October 1, 2002 to conference headquarters. A camera-ready final paper will be required from accepted authors and must be received at conference headquarters by December 6, 2002 for printing in the conference proceedings. Because the conference is self-supporting, all participants must pay registration fees and any costs associated with attending the conference.

The CWO '02 Concurrent Sessions Committee will accept or reject papers based on the information in the abstracts and relevance to the statewide strategy California's Ocean Resources: An Agenda for the Future and A Review of California's Ocean Agenda. Print copies of the documents are available by contacting the Ocean Resources Management Program, California Resources Agency, 1416 Ninth Street, Suite 1311, Sacramento, CA 95814, USA; e-mail Chris.Blackburn@resources.ca.gov; facsimile (916) 653-8102; or telephone (916) 653.5656.

Multiple abstracts may be submitted for principal authors. Authors are asked to make presentations of interest to a multi-disciplinary audience. Papers may identify or offer solutions to problems, utilize case studies, identify knowledge gaps or collaboration opportunities, and discuss broader applications and implications of material presented.

ACCEPTED papers will be published in the CWO '02 Conference Proceedings, to be made available approximately 120 days after the conference. Other publications may also result from this conference in an effort to further share information and ideas among ocean and coastal resource managers around the world. Proposals for volumes on specific or regional topics are welcome and persons interested in serving as Volume Editor are sought.
