AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS AND LIST OF ACCEPTED ABSTRACTS

__________

ACCEPTED PAPERS are listed alphabetically by primary author's last name and include both concurrent session presentations and poster presentations. The alphabetical listing is divided by author last names into Primary Author's Last Name A-G , Primary Author's Last Name H-O and Primary Author's Last Name P-Z. Please note that the lists are in the following format:

Primary Author Last Name, Primary Author First Name: Paper Title. Session Title.

PAPER ABSTRACTS AND PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES are due October 1, 2002. We will be compiling and publishing all final abstracts for distribution to conference attendees at CWO '02. This informal publication will require a detailed abstract, no more than two pages in length, single-spaced, listing the name, title, affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number and facsimile (if available) for each author and co-author. The family or last name of each author and co-author should be underlined. In the upper right-hand corner of the first page, annotate the topic that best describes your abstract. If more than one author is named on an abstract, please identify the name of the person who will present the paper at the conference with parentheses. Please see the Sample Abstract for format guidance. A one-page biography of the presenter must be included with the abstract submission.

Use a plain, common font type (such as Geneva or Helvetica) for preparing your materials. If sending your paper electronically, please send it as a Word, WordPerfect or rich text format file and name the file using your Paper Reference Number (found in the electronic Acceptance Notice you should have received from conference headquarters on or about August 12) and primary author's last name (i.e., 290Smith.doc). In addition, using the same naming method, include a one-page biography of the presenter with your abstract (i.e., 290SmithBio.doc). Please note that these materials must be received by October 1, 2002 so that conference materials may be prepared and shipped to the conference site.

Submission of the final abstract is understood to be a firm commitment to attend CWO '02. No travel funds are available for concurrent session or poster presenters. All participants, including authors, session chairs and attendees, are required to register and pay registration fees. You must submit your abstract and the presenter's bio in accordance with these instructions to be included in the conference materials and final program.

ORAL PAPER PRESENTATIONS are made during one of 50 concurrent sessions. Each concurrent session is 90 minutes in length, with an additional 15 minutes for discussion. Individual speaakers' presentation times may vary, depending upon the number of speakers in the session, the topic and the session format. In advance of the conference, session chairs will be contacting the speakers in their session to discuss the general focus and format. In addition, speakers are asked meet with their session chairperson 15 minutes prior to the start of their session in the assigned session room. You will be notified of your assigned session room when you check in at the Speaker's Desk during conference registration. Audio-visual equipment available for oral presentations include a portable microphone, an LCD projector (presenters must supply their own laptop computer), a slide projector, and an overhead projector. Access to electrical outlets will be available. Internet access is not available in the session rooms. If additional audio-visual equipment is required for your presentation (i.e., flip chart, easel), you are responsible for making prior arrangements through conference headquarters.

The emphasis of CWO '02 is on California's landmark strategy, California's Ocean Resources: An Agenda for the Future. Papers presented at CWO '02 should, as much as possible, review, discuss, or suggest new approaches to ocean and coastal resource management that relate to the progress in implementing the recommendations in the Ocean Agenda. Your paper should identify public policy initiatives that may improve the management of California's ocean and coastal resources - both natural and economic. Upon final review of the conference program, we may be contacting you about possibly modifying your paper to reduce duplication in sessions or to ensure that the information provided is most applicable to achieving the conference goals.

SPEAKERS may determine the precise day and time of their paper presentation by finding their session title in the Table of Concurrent Sessions. A Speaker's Ready Room will be available throughout the conference to test audio visuals and practice presentations.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS will be made during the Poster Session on Monday, October 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall. A reception will be held concurrently and will include remarks from Vice Provost Lawrence B. Coleman of the University of California's Office of the President. Poster boards (4 ft. high x 8 ft. wide) will be provided, as well as minimal supplies, such as tape, scissors and push pins. If you have special supplies needs for your poster presentation, you are advised to bring them with you. Tables and easels may also be made available, but must be reserved in advance through the Exhibits Coordinator, Mr. Kim Sterrett, at Sterrett@dbw.ca.gov or 916.263.8157. To locate your assigned posterboard, look for the board with your paper number in the top right hand corner. Authors are responsible for securing their poster to the posterboard. Any posters remaining in the Exhibit Hall after 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 28 will be removed. You are required to be present during the Poster Session.
