Overview of Public Review Period

The public review period for the draft Habitat Conservation Plan/Sustained Yield Plan (HCP/SYP) began on July 14, 1998 and is currently scheduled to last 90 days, ending on October 12, 1998. The public will have access to the these documents by a variety of means, and will have ample opportunity to express their views.

The draft HCP/SYP can be reviewed in government offices and libraries throughout the State. See the State Public Notice and Federal Public Notice sections of this web page for specific locations. In addition, the draft HCP/SYP is posted on this web page, the draft HCP/SYP can be ordered on CD Rom, it can be purchased at commercial copy centers, and a hardcopy of the summary can be ordered as well. An SYP hearing will be held on July 29, 1998 at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, 3750 Harris Street, Eureka. See the State Public Notice for more details. An additional SYP hearing is planned for the latter third of the public review period, and will be announced in the near future.

The public may submit written comments at any time within the public review period, and are encouraged to do so. Please see the State and Federal Public Notice sections of this web page for information on where comments should be sent.

A draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) is currently under preparation, and will be available in August or September. The EIS/EIR will evaluate the proposed action, consisting of the draft HCP/SYP as well as the purchase of old-growth redwood groves and adjacent buffer habitat pursuant to the Headwaters Agreement of September 28, 1996. The draft EIS/EIR will have a public review period and public hearings. Specific details are not yet available, but advance notification will be provided to the public.
