Cities of Huntington Beach, Dana Point and Seal Beach to Begin Phased Reopening of Beaches

Published Date:

SACRAMENTO – Three cities in Orange County have received approval from state agencies to begin safely restoring public access to the beaches that they operate effective today.

The cities of Huntington Beach, Dana Point and Seal Beach have submitted plans to allow safe public access to their beaches that include measures to protect public health. State agencies have determined the plans are consistent with the Governor’s Stay-At-Home order issued March 19, 2020, and that beach access can be restored in these communities. Letters to the cities permitting the reopening of their beaches can be found at www.parks.ca.gov/LocalGovernments.

The plans include a range of measures to avoid overcrowding and enable safe physical distancing on the beach. Local residents should consult their city’s website for details regarding beach access.

“I want to thank these cities for developing these plans to enable safe beach access that protects against the spread of COVID-19,” California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot said.

State agencies continue to work with other local governments in Orange County that are developing plans to safely restore access to beaches under their jurisdiction. State agencies will expeditiously review and consider these plans as they are submitted. Approved plans will be announced as they are approved.
